This week I am thankful my mom sent me a signed email saying she would talk to “D” after my next medical board exam provided I don’t bring up the topic until I take my test. I might take the test in the next 2-4 months, so until then, I am not supposed to bring up the topic. I am happy because this is the first time she agreed to do that in writing. I know it’s a baby step, but I will take whatever I get. I am not 100% confident she will stick to her word, but I am willing to take a chance. It’s not like she is going to say yes if I bring up the topic every day. If I do what she wants me too and then she doesn’t keep her word, I will have the leverage. On top of that, it encourages me to work hard and take the test quickly. This is the first step she took after my relentless argument for last two years, so I am happy. Maybe me finishing the test will make her more comfortable because that means I can apply to become a doctor. She always wanted me to be independent and not rely on my husband.
So, this is what I am thankful for this week.

/ August 2, 2013That’s great news. It takes baby steps with Indian parents because of the control issue. .Everything will work out.
